    Problems of Fuel Oil
  • Sludge buildup accumulates in tanks due to impurities and sediments that naturally occur in fuel oil.
  • Dirty filters and screens due to sludge accumulation.
  • Algae, which aggravates both tank and fuel line problems.
  • Water, from condensation, which can cause freeze-ups in cold weather, restrict oil flow through filters, and cause corrosion which damages tanks, lines and burner parts.
  • Nozzle Plugging - internally from sludge and externally from carbonization due to the high temperature in the combustion chamber.
  • Cold Weather - water freeze-up to form ice crystals and wax build-ups at or below the pour point of oil.
    How Tank Guard Works
  1. By treating the Fuel OIl going into the tank, the sludge is broken down and dispersed into a colloidal suspension. This can burned through the burner without pluggin-up the system. The tank is gradually cleaned until sludge levels are zero. From this point future sludge build-up is prevented.
  2. Oil Filters and Screens stay clean, usually the only material on them are small amounts of rust.
  3. The algaecides plus the dehydrators in TankGuard are a very effective combination for cleaning up and preventing formation of Algae or Bacteria in oil.
  4. Normal amounts of water will be removed by the treated oil. However, some tanks with one inch or more of water should be pumped out before being treated.

Nozzle Plugging
The inside of the nozzle is kept clean by the action of the detergent and metal cleaners in TankGuard. The hard carbon on the outside of the nozzle forms after the burner shuts down due to the film of oil on the surface and to the high reflective heat of the combustion chamber. However, the ingredients in "TankGuard" are also accumulated. This softens the carbon and continuously causes it to slough-off so as not to interfere with the oil pattern. This insures long periods of smoke free operation of the burner.
